December 2008 NCSA Newsletter

Our next Membership Meeting is scheduled for December 14th at 2 PM. A light lunch will be served one hour prior to the meeting. The Election of Officers will take place after the Election Committee consisting of George Durkin (Chairman), Mike Goldpenny, Ron Connor and Robert Graves concludes their tally of all ballots. At this same Meeting the Election Committee will make known to the Membership and the Board of Directors the results of the ballot count. To assist our voting members in this 2008 Election we have included a self addressed envelope and ballot with this newsletter. Please complete, stamp and mail your ballot with sufficient time to reach us by December 13th. Or you may deposit your sealed ballot in the ballot box provided in the Clubhouse prior to the 2 PM deadline on Election Day December 14th. ATTENTION, Also, included in this newsletter are amendments to our Constitution and By-Laws, Please take the time to read them as it is first notification in the process to amend the said change. Thank you, the B.O.D.

ATTENTION A new procedure for our guest fee collection has been implemented, Please take notice that there are small sized manila envelope left near the sign-in sheet, these envelopes must be used by members for collection of guest, targets or other fees, simply write your name and the amount on the envelope and deposit it in the collection slot. We do appreciate your cooperation and thank you for helping to make our job easier.

ATTENTION     You guessed it; a Security Camera, one of four that has been installed at NCSA for the protection and integrity of the Association and its members. With 24/7 monitoring ability, it will help protect our property night and day from burglary, mischief or issues contrary to the benefit of our member’s. Notices have been posted on our property to procure surveillance awareness. Thank you for your understanding the B.O.D.

ATTENTION Sporter Rifle Shooters In 2008, 2009 we found that participation in the NYS Sporterifle League would be possible and that John Lotz had contacted Dave Vogel in reference to joining the NYS Sporterifle League. With this information in hand, John has offered to be captain and assume responsibility for the Sporter Rifle Team. Thursday, September 18th was the first practice night, with signup at 6:30 PM and “on the line” at 7:00 PM. Matches will continue each Thursday evening for the remainder of the season with scores to be forwarded to the NYS League (via email) no later than the Friday following each match. The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a U.S. government-chartered program that promotes firearms safety training and rifle practice for all qualified U.S. citizens with special emphasis on youth. Any U.S. citizen, who is legally not prohibited from owning a firearm may purchase a military surplus rifle from the CMP, provided they are a member of a CMP affiliated club. At the September 14th Membership Meeting it was noted that N.C.S.A. has reestablished its affiliation with the CMP. Normally a copy of a Club ID card (proof of current membership) along with an order form and payment is required of the purchaser. NCSA does not issue ID cards yearly, thus requiring Members to submit a CMP MEMBER CERTIFICATION FORM, if you need this document, call Elmer at 731-4535

Charles Collins Shooters Clinic Will be held on Monday nights at 7:00 PM, January 19th and January 26th 09. And on February 2nd, 9th 16th, and 23rd, from novice to advanced level instructions for .22 caliber rifle or any caliber handgun with legal ammunition that is allowed on our indoor range.     N.C.S.A. Sponsored Youth Camp For more than 50 years, DEC has provided a residential summer camp program in conservation education for young New Yorkers. Camp Rushford, serves children who are 12 to 14 and 15 to 17 years old. At the camp, youths become immersed in conservation education, participating in fun activities and games that teach the wise use of our natural resources. There are usually five to eight weeks of camp that a student can choose from in the months of June, July, & August. Hunter Education courses are offered at Camp Rushford. Applications must be postmarked and submitted, no earlier than February 7th 2009 to secure attendance at the Camp.

Junior Rifle Program N.C.S.A. is in the process of developing the Junior Rifle Program and has intensions of offering it for the 2008/2009 season. The course will educate juniors in firearm safety and improve marksmanship. Niagara County Sportsmen’s Club maintains a number of .22 caliber rifles for ages 12 thru 20 that are supplied for use in the course. In addition all necessary materials for the course may be provided for this Rifle Marksmanship Course. Be sure to watch for future notices about the Junior Program. Or call Elmer at 731-4535

   NCSA Shirts and Hats We have Niagara County Sportsmen's shirts and hats with the Club Logo on them and are available for purchase at the Club on both membership and directors meeting dates, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and Sunday mornings.    NRA Membership/Renewal Gerald McLane is our NRA recruiter. He has made available the necessary NRA application to be completed and mailed using the postage paid self addressed envelope available on the bulletin board in the clubhouse, Be sure to mail to the NRA Recruiting Department.     Membership Renewals NCSA dues are due June 10th 08, For your convenience we’ve included a self addressed envelope with a renewal form in our June 08 Newsletter mailing to be used when renewing your 2008-09 Membership, We again ask that you please return the renewal with proper payment to the address indicated on the form. Or, you can deposit it the collection box next to the sign in sheet. (No cash please) A printable member renewal form is available at our website, www.ncsaonline.org or you can obtain a renewal form left near the collection box at the club.      Indoor Range Access Anyone wishing to use the indoor range must pay a yearly range fee of $20.00 and will need to attend a one time range orientation to become familiar with range equipment, range rules and ammo that can and cannot be used on our range. When completed, our access control will be programmed to allow you access to the Indoor Range. The orientation is routinely offered immediately after the conclusion of our membership meetings, scheduled at 2:00 PM on the second Sunday of each month, and at 7:00 PM on the second Tuesday following the General Meetings.     Indoor Range Renewal You may renew your Indoor Range access any time during the year. Your status from any previous year will be considered verification that you have had the required Indoor Range Orientation Briefing. If your Indoor Range access has been turned off it will be restored upon receipt of payment to the Membership Chairman. If you have other questions, please contact Mike at 695-0090

    Membership Applications, Steve Urbaniak will be accepting applications and providing orientation for new applicants on the second Sunday of each month at 12 PM sharp, and on the day of and prior to our General Membership Meeting. Also at 7 PM sharp on the second Tuesday following our General Membership Meeting. Any exceptions to this schedule will be noted in our monthly calendar. Applicants must obtain a background check from their local Police or Sheriff's department, and must present it at the time of their membership orientation.
